he made a real bad mistake ! he didn't do it on purpose!! alcohol gets in the way of some very good people, hopefully hell get the help he really needs !! didn't you ever screw up ? i did years ago and learned the lesson don't drink & drive!!!!! it dosent make him a scumbag, just someone who needs help.
