KATHERINE LEWIS

Staff Writer

Beat: K-12 education reporter

Started at the Daily News: Sept. 30, 2005

Bio: After spending the majority of her first 26-years as a Hoosier, Katherine felt she needed to see more than the corn and Colts that make up the Indiana landscape. Moving to Southwest Florida in September 2005 gave her that opportunity. However, the move will never shake her deep love for the Indiana University men's basketball team, music by Hoosier greats David Lee Roth and John Cougar Mellencamp, or the deep fried pickles only available at the county fair. A 2001 Indiana University graduate who majored in journalism and political science, Kate -- as her friends call her -- knew she wanted to be a journalist from the moment her father put a copy of "All the President's Men" in her hands. An avid reader and proud owner of a signed copy of the Michael Chabon classic "Wonder Boys," Kate likes to spend her free time hanging out with friends, traveling to exotic places like Wilmington, Del., and watching reruns of "Dawson's Creek."
