Mike Housewert writes, "The roseate spoonbill, in my opinion it is one of the most beautiful birds in the Everglades. Did you know that in the early 1900's these birds were hunted to the brink of scarcity? There were tens of thousands of them and they were hunted for their beautiful plumage and used in women's hats, clothing, and other decorative ways."
