Starz gear up for the big dance
Betty Newman, one of this year's Dancing with the Starz, practices some dance steps Thursday at the Esplanade to gear up for the big dance Aug. 11. Newman's charity of choice is the Art League of Marco Island. Newman is pairing a barbecue with the Art League's Art In Motion celebration July 7 as one of her fundraisers.

Tara Trevethan, one of this year's Dancing with the Starz, dances with one of last year's Starz Arturo Perez. Trevethan is raising money for Hospice of Naples, a charity she holds in high esteem since Hospice took care of her father who passed away two years ago of cancer. Trevethan is holding a Bikini Car and Bike Wash on June 24 at the Old Marco Pub & Restaurant and a wine tasting/raffle drawings July 14 at her restaurant, Tara Steak & Lobster House to raise money for Hospice.

This year's Starz wait to be introduced Thursday at the Esplanade -- from left, Darlene Schulze, Craig Woodward, Betty Newman, Tara Trevethan, Howard Jordan and Maria Elena Pujol. Pujol is hosting Tuesday's comedic performance at Capt. Brien's Off the Hook Comedy Club to raise money for Youth Haven. Schulze is raffling $2,500 worth of dental work from her husband Dr. Herman Schulze.
