Freshmen declare majors

Four-hundred and fifty plants of 60 different species of Heliconia and Ginger were potted at Naples Botanical Garden as part of the collection for the future expanded Garden. The Garden is set to start its expansion into a 160-acre world-class tropical garden, due to open in Fall 2010. The plants were purchased with funds from a grant awarded to the Garden by Naples Garden Club.

This Indian-Head Ginger (Costus woodsonii) is one that was already in the Naples Botanical Garden collection.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has a home surrounded on Rose Apple Lane in East Naples where at least one person is barricaded. Greg Kahn/Staff
