City governments provide services that protect and enhance in our lives, and the Florida League of Cities sponsors Florida City Government Week to recognize these services and this role.
Florida City Government Week is scheduled this year from Oct. 19 to the 25, and the City of Marco Island has scheduled a number of events during the week to help spread the word to all citizens of Marco Island that they are critical to government that is closest to the people.
Residents “weigh-in” on issues in a number of ways, and with a positive public discussion policies and major decisions are evaluated, discussed, and decided. Many residents participate by attending and speaking at a city public meetings, writing letters and e-mails or calling city officials about a particular issue that affects them. Marco Island is also lucky to have a base of volunteers that help make the city a better place to live, work and play by serving on city advisory committees and as volunteers in city departments, such as Parks and Recreation. This week also celebrates the contribution these volunteers and citizens make to our community, and thank you to all that contribute in any form.
