Who is the kid with the camera?

Kyle Adams, an eighth grader at Marco Island Charter Middle School, has roamed or sat on the sidelines of every school sport, taking photos that have been running in the Eagle.

He has been sidelined for six weeks due to two stress fractures in his right heel. It happened while playing soccer, but he also was playing volleyball and running track.

His mom, Laura, has also taken photos for the Eagle and went to the sidelines so Kyle could take the photos.

“I was going to every game to support my teammates and decided that instead of watching I would do something more interesting,” Adams said.

For every sport Adams’ photos have appeared in the Eagle. He has also volunteered and shoots photos for the school’s non-sports events for the student yearbook.

“I just try to make my photos tight,” Adams said, adding that his mom adjusts the camera settings for the different events.

Adams will be out of his “boot” soon. He will be ready for basketball season where he plays point guard.

Roger Raymond, athletic director and coach for cross country and boys basketball, praises Kyle and his family.

“Kyle works hard and is a competitor,” Raymond said. “He chooses to use his varied talents to take full advantage of middle school. He is also in the jazz band and has a solid grade-point average. He is a fine example of a student-athlete who already has developed a good work ethic.”

Raymond praises Adams’ parents, Chris and Laura.

“The family goes beyond the call of duty,” Raymond said. “They are the kind of people that will call to see what they can do to help the school. I am sure Kyle is a hard worker and well organized because of their example.”

Margo Heidenreich is the school’s Spanish teacher, the morning show producer and yearbook advisor. The morning show is a student-run televised news broadcast of school and community events that goes to each classroom Monday through Friday.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Kyle for three years,” she said. “He is an outstanding student. Due to his academic excellence and sense of responsibility, he was selected to help with the morning show as part of the production team.”

He is the show’s video technician.

“He has really taken his role as video technician seriously,” Heidenreich said. “He also has volunteered for the 2008-2009 yearbook team. He does not only takes pictures of numerous sports and academic events, he is also on the yearbook production team in charge of layout and editing.”

Heidenreich said she had the pleasure of presenting Adams to the Marco Noontime Rotary Club as the school’s Outstanding Student of the Month in 2007.

“His dedication to school work and extracurricular activities is what I admire most about Kyle and will truly miss him when he heads off to high school,” she said.

The Adams have two children at Charter School. Kyle and sister Summer who is in sixth grade. She plays volleyball, soccer and basketball. She is in the school band, playing alto saxophone. Kyle plays trumpet in the jazz band.

Both children have been involved in sports since they were three.

“We don’t push them, but we urge them to try things once to see if they would like it,” Chris said. “No matter what they do we want them to give their best effort. Charter School offers a lot of opportunities.”

But if they join a sport they have to stick with it for the entire season.

“We don’t tell them what to join, but we tell them to make sure they want to do it,” Laura said. “They have to finish what they have committed to do, whether it is sports or school activities.”

Both parents are sales representatives for Premier Properties of Southwest Florida.

“We are able to work our schedules so that we can follow them all the time,” Chris said.

Laura added, “It is fun to watch them. As students and athletes we are proud of what they do for their school.”
