Mel’s puts big hurt on Nacho Mama’s

Almost Famous Mel’s finally picked up a victory and put a big hurt on second-place Nacho Mama’s in the City Men’s Softball League.
Mel’s edged Nacho Mama’s, 18-15, lowering Mama’s record to 8-4, moving them three games behind Cocomo’s who won 21-12 over St. Mark’s.
In the other game Thursday night, Sand Bar surprised Capt. Brien’s, 22-10.
Mel’s Garon Skender, Pat McGuire and Jason Berning wrapped out three hits, including home runs by McGuire and Berning.
Jeff Nagy and Chris Hadek added two hits each. For Mama’s Steve Pahr slammed out four hits, including a home run. Vince and Santo Gentile added three hits, while Dave Flowers, Tony Oliverio, Eric Phillips and Bill Hoopes registered two hits each.
Cocomo’s Brian Day slapped out four hits, Rick Busch, Jon Stillwagon, Dean Alberry and Sean Shea, had three hits each and Niels Stone, Curt Whithoff and Dan Noyes had two hits each. St. Mark’s Tim Dillingham wrapped out three hits, while Mark Canaday, Jeff Madenford, Patrick Baldwin and Ernie Borden added two hits each and Cory Banister blasted a home run.
Sand Bar’s Jed Ebersol, Kurt Busch, Greg St. Amour and Tom Rozankowski rapped out two hits each, while Capt. Brien’s was led by Kyle Prevett with three hits and Joe Valencic and Kevin Gates had two hits each.
Thursday night’s games pits Mel’s against Sand Bar at 6, Capt. Brien’s against St. Mark’s at 7:15 and Cocomo’s plays Nacho Mama’s at 8:30.
