Week 3 of summer camp is in the books and what a week it was!
The K through two camp theme was “Buggy About Bugs.” The three to six campers took part in “Team Survivor.”
The weeks events included sidewalk chalk, caterpillar races and making giant bugs with butcher paper.
“Team Survivor” included games and events that mirrored the popular television program. Field trips included going to the Golden Gate Aquatic Center, seeing movies at Hollywood 20 Cinema, spending the day at Cambier Park in Naples and mini-golf at Coral Cay Golf in Naples. I still can’t hit the ball through the windmill. Someday I will succeed.
All the campers got to go to the pool to enjoy the cool water and kick back for a while.
Next week the themes will be “Pizza and Pasta Week” for the K through two campers and “Time Travel Week” for three through six grades. These are my favorite weeks of camp.
The former for the food and the latter because I get to go to the closet and put on the leisure suit (lime green, white belt and the platform heels. I’m going to get down and get funky. I just hope we time travel back to the ’70s. Otherwise I’m in big trouble.
Theater camp week two was a big success. The actors preformed the play “Clue” and play director Gina Sisbarro said, “I’m thrilled with the amount of dialogue each actor learned and the total performance was excellent.”
Lee Brovitz, guitar camp director, had a class of budding Eric Clapton’s attending. Lee was happy with the results and especially liked the new facilities at the “Y” where he conducted the camp.
Wesley Blassneck directed the sold out computer/swim camp (session one). She says the camp went well with camper’s significantly improving their computer skills as well as swim techniques.
Registration continues for summer camp here at the “Y.” Week five starts June 30 and lasts until July 5. Camp is closed July 4.
Specialty camps include zoo camp starting August 4, beginner guitar on July 14 and camp rock on July 28. The second session for All Skills Volleyball begins August 4. British Challenger Soccer also begins August 4.
Leadership training classes are scheduled for July 7 and 21. Strength training (session one) is scheduled for July 8 and Aug. 5. Swim lessons with Miss Dottie will be July 3-14, Aug. 4-14 and Sept. 8-18. Tennis camp starts July 9 and aerobic classes are scheduled throughout the day.
There is something for everyone at the Greater Marco YMCA. Check us out on line at marcoislandymca.org and/or stop by for a tour Friday. The Greater Marco YMCA is located at 101 Sandhill Street. See you at the “Y”
