In a lengthy discussion with Naples City Manager George Patterson, the Marco Island City Incorporation Study Group was told that the county tax levy on Marco could go down. Patterson said Marco would avoid an increase or receive a reduction. He cited an area in Pinellas County where it receive a reduction in taxes after it incorporated.

There will be five candidates for Marco Island Fire Commission in November. Candidates include incumbent Dr. George Hewson, George Stewart, James Henry, Stewart Smiley and Alfred Holzinger.

Collier County Commissioners are eyeing a record budget for 1978-79 fiscal year. County staff has prepared a tentative budget for $86,274,724. It is an increase of more than $16 million. The county’s assessed tax base is nearly $2 billion.

Christ Logan, Heidi Ingle, Lisa Orr and Terry ingle are training for the First Marco Island Eagle Marathon, set for Sept. 2. There will be two events, a 7.5-mile run and a three-mile run. There will be individual awards and a family award for families that complete either distance.

With 50 tennis memberships already, the Marco Island Yacht Club is planning construction of four tennis courts. The club also will have a supply of tennis equipment and apparel.

Mrs. Lillian Carter was made an honorary member of the Roepstoff’s crew when she cruised aboard their yacht.

In an effort to erase a $200 deficit in the Fourth of July Fireworks Fund, the Jaycettes will have a rummage, plant and backyard sale at the Marco Island Shopping Plaza.

When asked if the county’s newly-adopted school impact fee will affect Marco home construction, Marv Needles said, “I don’t think it will have much impact. You’re talking about less than half percent of construction costs in the area of Collier County.”
