MICA: Good Marco! Secret is out
I’m sure by now you’ve heard that Marco Island-Naples placed tenth on AARP Magazine’s Healthiest Hometowns list and came in second in the entire country for Longest Life Expectancy. Our secret is out! The gig is up!
Of course, we’ve known all along how wonderful Marco is. That’s why we moved here. We do have some outstanding doctors with top notch skills and state-of-the-art equipment at our fingertips. But what we have that most of the others in the top 10 do not, is a gorgeous, stunning, stupendous, spectacular beach. Our members have told us, and we must believe them, that the Marco Island Residents’ Beach is the most beautiful beach-front property in the world.
On Marco we also are aware of the vital part sunshine plays in our everyday lives. If there are two consecutive days of rain on Marco, people are walking around with their heads down, looking quite glum. Sunshine rules on Marco!
At the MICA office last week we had a visit from a very pleasant gentleman. He is a member and just stopped by to say “Good Marco.” Instead of “good morning” or “good afternoon,” he always says “Good Marco!” What a clever, witty man he was and so very happy to be living on Marco Island. Give it a try. The next person you pass, say “Good Marco!” You’ll find yourself giggling as you say it. You can’t help but feel good when you say those two words.
In the AARP survey, residents got high scores for regular exercise, healthy eating, and not smoking. I think with the increasing amount of biking on the island due to the price of gas that Marco Island could score higher next year on the exercise end and maybe come in first place for longevity.
Remember, Good Marco!
Please note: On August 23, MICA will host a “Family Fun Day” at Residents’ Beach, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members should bring their ID cards and Marco Island residents who are not members may bring their proof of residency to the MICA office the week of August 18 to obtain a one-day pass. Look for further details next week in this column.
