The matter of an advanced life support system with telemetry communications for Collier County has many supporters and some problems. Doctors, hospital authorities, civic leaders and persons from many walks of life attest to lifesaving and time-saving advantages of a “Rescue Squad” type system now in use in most metropolitan areas. The cost of the system, about $120,000, may not be a problem, but the operating cost is causing concern to budget-conscious commissioners and others. Operating costs for ambulance operation is $248,000, with another $99,000 needed if the telemetry system is added to the county budget. The proposed budget is $252,000. Collier County Commissioners have seven possible companies that will do a study on the county purchasing the Marco Island Sewer and Water System, owned by Deltona Corp. Deltona has suggested the sale price be $9.5 million, plus $3 million for Deltona’s cost of future installation of sewer and water systems. The county has proposed $10,748,666 in its 1978-79 budget. It is expected the study will take two to three months.

The Florida Public Service Commission has approved the sale of Caxambas Transportation Service of Marco Island to Sammy Hamilton, mayor of Everglades City. Sale is price is $75,000. Hamilton said he expect the sale papers will be signed in the next few days. Hamilton will continue scheduled bus service from Marco to Naples and Vanderbilt Beach. Charter services to Disney World and Miami’s Orange Bowl will also be continued. Hamilton plans on adding a second 48-passenger bus to the Everglades National Park where he already has a tourist service.
