Volunteers will be fanning out across Collier County this Saturday for Bay Days 2008.
The 18th Annual event, organized by Keep Collier Beautiful, is expected to enlist about 800 people to pick up litter from 8 a.m. to 12 noon from beaches, bays and vacant lots from Immokalee to Marco Island.
"People are stepping up," Keep Collier Beautiful Executive Director Cher Compton said this morning.
Cleanup sites include Lowdermilk Park, Naples Pier, Bayview Park in East Naples, Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park in North Naples, Vanderbilt Beach and Tigertail Beach.
The Naples Sailing and Yacht Club is organizing a crew on Naples Bay. Cedar Bay Marina and Marco River Marina are offering rental boats to volunteers. The Immokalee Front Porch Program is organizing cleanups of lots in Immokalee.
Cleanup crews also are leaving from Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida is sending volunteers to Keewaydin Island, Compton said.
Keep Collier Beautiful is providing T-shirts and garbage bags to volunteers, while supplies last. Volunteers should bring their own gloves and sunscreen, Compton said.
She asked that groups of 10 or more volunteers call 580-8319 to pre-register to make sure the group's preferred cleanup site has adequate supplies.
