More than 45 kids, many from out of state, took advantage of their Easter break to participate in the March Madness Hoop Shoot Competition, sponsored by the city Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday.
Each competitor attempted five foul shots, 20 lay-ups and 15 3-point shots. The best overall in each age group were winners.
Bridget McCue won the girls 7-9 competition by making 40 percent of her lay-ups, 60 percent of her foul shots and 46 percent of her 3-point tries. Christopher Figge missed all of his foul shots, but made 95 percent of his lay-ups and 40 percent of his 3-point shots to win the boys 7-9 age group.
Rachel Womeldorf made 90 percent of her lay-ups, 60 percent of her foul shots and 13 percent from 3-point range to win the girls 10-12 challenge.
Paul Johnson, event coordinator said the competition in the 10-12 boys was rugged. Wesley Lancaster claimed the win after making 90 percent of his lay-ups, 60 percent of his foul shots and 66 percent from the 3-point area.
In the 13-15 girls Hannah McCue won by sinking 90 percent of her lay-ups, 60 percent from the foul line and 26 percent from 3-point range. In the boys 13-15 competition, Austin Hansen, made good on 70 percent of his lay-ups, 80 percent of his foul shots and 53 percent from 3-point range.
Johnson said the competition was not part of a national competition, just some fun for kids on Easter break.
