More than 30 volunteers helped with last year’s Spooktacular event at Mackle Park. This year, the city encourages volunteers to dress up in their favorite costume.
Mindy Matusiak, recreation program supervisor, says many volunteers are needed to make the event a success.
“We need volunteers to help set up, tear down and to help supervise the booths. They can pick what they want to do,” Matusiak explains. “We had quite a few events last year. There were mummy wrap stations, snow cones and cookie decorating stations. This year, there will be games, sand art and a popcorn Halloween craft. So it’s not just standing around at a booth. It’s definitely going to be a lot of fun. Volunteers get to interact with the kids.”
Each station requires two to three volunteers. Last year, between 20 and 30 members of the community got involved to make it a “Spooktacular” good time for everyone.

Jill Hansen (left) volunteered to do face painting at last year’s first annual Spooktacular event.
“It’s been really tough to find volunteers,” Matusiak adds. “People should do it because it’s fun. There’s a lot of things going on, it’s self gratifying and you’re helping the community.”
Anyone interested in volunteering should call Mindy Matusiak at 642-0575 by October 24.
