Local dance instructor Jill Demchak, who was the dance director of the Marco Island YMCA for five years, has opened her own studio. An open house is scheduled to be held 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Spotlight Dance Studio, 860 Bald Eagle Drive.
The open house is mostly an opportunity for dancers to get registered for classes, which begin Monday, Demchak said.
“They’re still building — its been a process ... with permits ... It’s taken longer than I thought,” Demchak said, but is assured that classes will begin next Monday (attendance requires pre-registration).
“I have a passion for dance and a desire to share my passion with children,” Demchak said as to why she has opened her own studio. “I don’t know what else I’m going to offer there ... I might have theater, or adult classes, who knows.”
For now, classes for children ages three to teen of all levels are scheduled to begin Monday. Those interested can either stop by the dance studio during open house or visit www.spotlightdancers.net to check out specifics on each class, schedules and registration requirements.
Demchak emphasizes dance training for children in a non-competitive and nurturing environment on her Web site’s mission statement: “My goal is to teach children the art and love of dance ... Classes are taught in a positive environment, encouraging students to gain self confidence and respect for themselves and others. While most importantly having fun!”
“I offer basic through advanced — there’s a class for everyone,” Demchak said. “All levels, so I just encourage people to come by and check it out.”
