The Alumnae Club met for its monthly luncheon and meeting Wednesday at the Island Country Club. The club’s members were also a captive audience to a presentation made by members of the Marco Island Historical Society.

Lee Lindberg narrated a speech in the fascinating character of Capt. William Thomas Collier, a.k.a. Capt. Bill Collier, who was the first to establish a hotel in Southwest Florida in the 1800s.

Bill and Betsy Perdichizzi spoke and dressed as Baron Collier, esteemed businessman and the county’s namesake, and Tommie Barfield, who established Collier County as it’s own and was named the area’s first local schools superintendent.

Before the three Marco Island historians presented their informative and enchanting narratives as the three famous historical characters of Collier County, boardmembers announced the club’s many upcoming activities.

“I have a wonderful and committed board of directors — I’m very grateful — and I’m so happy to be a part of it,” President Minozzi said.

The Alumnae Club’s upcoming events include:

• Oct. 12 — Cruise around the islands aboard the Marco Island Princess.

• Nov. 2, 3 — Santa’s Helpers interviews will be held at Manatee Middle School, Tommie Barfield and Marco Island Charter Middle School.
