The Tamiami Trail was closed to traffic due to a single-car accident involving serious injuries, about two miles west of State Road 29 in Ochopee.
The roadway is now open in all directions.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident, which occurred just after midnight on Friday, caused the vehicle to overturn. The driver and passenger sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital, according to FHP spokesman Lt. Paul France.
