Contracts, bonfires and water rates are among issues the Naples City Council is to discuss during today’s regular meeting.

Council is expected today to approve incoming Naples City Manager Bill Moss’ contract. Council chose Moss last month to replace former Naples City Manager Bob Lee.

While Moss came to a tentative contract agreement with Mayor Bill Barnett shortly after being hired, City Council still needs to approve the contract.

If it’s approved, Moss would make $177,000 a year as city manager. Moss currently makes $161,000 a year as Marco Island city manager.

Lee, who left in October, made $154,000 a year.

In lieu of a benefits package, the city also has agreed to pay 38 percent of his base salary, according to the contract.

He would have the ability to enroll in a 401(a) retirement plan, would receive a $500-a-month car allowance and would receive a $100-a-month cell phone allowance.

Moss is slated to begin work in Naples in January.

An event seeking last-minute approval also will be up for discussion during today’s meeting.

As part of a Leadership Florida event, the Economic Development Council of Collier County is hoping the City Council will approve a bonfire at Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club on Thursday. The event originally was on the consent agenda for routine approval, but Councilwoman Penny Taylor asked that the item be discussed. Taylor cited short notice for the reason she wants to discuss it.

According to the event description, organizers plan to have a bonfire from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Naples beachfront hotel. The event would be part of a Leadership Florida visit coordinated by the development council.

If approved, the city would provide a fire engine, one fire lieutenant and two firefighters.

Council also is expected to consider an ordinance that would raise water and sewer rates.

The Naples City Council meets starting at 9 a.m. at City Hall on Eighth Street South.

Most on Marco are happy to have you nice neighbors in Naples take him off our hands, if that answers your question.
