Customers and employees inside the Marco Island Marriott Resort and Spa were evacuated Friday due to smoke caused by an electrical problem.
Units from Marco Island Fire-Rescue Department, Isles of Capri Fire Department and Collier County EMS responded to a call at approximately 12:15 p.m. Friday afternoon about smoke in the resort.
The MIF-RD arrived within six minutes and found a light haze of smoke in two of the resort’s ballrooms.
"The source of the haze appeared to be an electrical problem in one of the air handlers," MIF-RD Chief Mike Murphy said.
Murphy added there was no damage to the area. People were let back into the building at approximately 1 p.m.
"The Marriott personnel did all the proper things," Murphy said. "They evacuated the area in question and their engineering staff immediately did all the proper things associated with the fire alarm."
