New police headquarters building open
The new $3.7 million Marco Island Police Headquarters building is now open for business. The two story, 18,000-square-foot structure is located on the City Government Campus at 51 Bald Eagle Drive and San Marco Road.
Marco Island Police Chief Roger Reinke said the administrative offices on the second floor are now open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A MIPD staff person will be stationed in the Marco Island Fire-Rescue Department building at 1280 San Marco Road from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, to assist members of the public who need police service during the transition to the new location.
The department’s telephone and fax numbers remain the same. Dial 911 for an emergency. For all other calls use 389-5050.
Most of the MIPD is housed on the second floor. The department held the first shift briefing for patrol officers in the squad room at 6 p.m., Tuesday.
The second floor also includes offices for the chief, captain, two lieutenants, investigators, victims advocate, school resource and crime prevention officers and volunteers.
Also on the second floor is the Emergency Operations Center, and 911 operator dispatch, interview, break rooms, and a conference room.
Police department facilities on the first floor include a sally port and rooms for detainee arrival and processing, evidence tech office and processing, marine HazMat storage, and long term and large evidence storage.
Reinke reminded the public to report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
"While you can come to the station to report an incident, it is preferable to call us and have us come to you," he said. "This avoids the necessity of calling a police officer to the station."

Community meeting room
The opening of the community meeting room on the first floor is scheduled for the next City Council meeting August 6.
Inside the entrance is a large lobby with a widescreen monitor that will display information and council meetings live. To the right is the elevator to the police department. To the left are restrooms.
The lobby can be fitted with extra padded seats for the public if necessary.
When you enter the meeting room, dozens of padded seating face the City Council dais. A table and seating module for the city manager and city attorney is on the left side of the room. A table and seating module for the city clerk is to the right. A third table and module is for city department staff.
Improved audio equipment and video monitors and cameras are strategically installed in the room. An audio visual room is equipped with digital recording for television and Internet broadcasts.
The speaker’s podium faces the chairman’s seat in the center of the dais. The podium is equipped with a laptop computer for presentations, an adjustable microphone and an adjustable scanning instrument that will display documents on the widescreen monitor above the council dais.
Each councilor has an adjustable microphone, a touch-screen monitor with built-in controls that include on-screen prompts for speaking and microphone volume, and a flat monitor built into the tabletop of the dais.
A wheelchair accessibility ramp for councilors is hidden behind a wall to the right of the council dais. A well-equipped kitchen is adjacent to the meeting room.

Come on CAVE people; send in your negative blogs.
I am sure you will find plenty wrong with this building.
How about that well equipped kitchen? AHA!
And the extra padded seats for the public? AHA!
Bring it on.

All we need is Andy Taylor, Barney Fife, and Gomer Pyle.

So how many of our citizens can sit in this meeting room?

I am happy to report that the earlier information I received regarding capacity was wrong. I am now told that the council room can seat up to 200 voters. That is good news.

We'll be there!

More lies from Roger Hall and more to come, I am sure.
He is the Secretary of Misinformation for the CAVE dwellers.
First he announced publicly that there were 100 seats. Now he says it is really 200 seats. That is a 100 percent increase.
Roger, do you take off your shoes when you have to count over 10 items?

patton1:
if you are an example of those who support the majority of our city council and our city manager - then this is just even more reason why these guys need to go. only the village idiots seem to have their support.
your comments make no sense. can you not read? Mr Hall was relating information that was given to him by someone else (probably the city, who seems to have spreading misinformation down to a science).

I am not an example of anything. There are over 7,000 registered voters on the island and only a small minority supports you and your ilk. If you are name calling over 5,000 registered voters "village idiots" you are even dumber than I first thought you were.
Hall did not indicate where he got the information from. Not from the City management, that is for sure. (Most probably from the janitor but that is even questionable) Hall is a pathological liar and a professional provocateur.
Stop being so hateful and do something positive to help our residents. Don't be a part of the malcontents group whose only objective is to destroy our city; join the people who are trying to make this a better place to live.

In fact, it is the "Malcontents" who are leading the city to the light. The belief that the "Malcontents" are a minority is wishful thinking on the part of the very few bloggers who write in support of the arrogant and corrupt current administration, but then time will tell.
If one tabulates the number of writers who might be labeled as "Malcontents" versus those who are Moss loyalists, it becomes very clear as to how the next election will go. No need to question.
In addition, I suggest that you compare the comments of the two opposing groups. Which one seems better informed? Which one makes the better arguments?
The general public is not deceived. Issler is but an amusement.

Patton1, there you go calling people names again. CAVE people and dwellers? Is that a reference to the GEICO commercial? Now you call Mr. Hall a "pathological liar and a professional provocateur"? That's a mouthful. What are you trying to say? The first is a personality flaw which describes a very serious defect. As Mr. Hall is a very successful business person, I do not believe you can support your assertion as to this defect. Mr. Hall is running for City Council so I guess that makes him a political something. That said, who has he provoked? I can find no statements intended to provoke in his entry. You are beginning to sound pretty desperate and you are reading things that are not here. Do you think these people you call names might actually win the big one, do you? I sure hope so because being mean spirited is one thing they are not. Most Marco Islanders now realize that change is necessary. The Council's recent attempt to extend thier own terms in office tipped the scales. Try and be nice if you want some creditability and join the plurality that spoke in the recent election. Vote for Hall, Batte and Neylon, good honest men that have new ideas. Vote to give our city back to it's citizens. Vote for change and stop being so mean.
