Your child will be thrilled when they discover the amazing world of animals, including fish, snakes and birds, in the natural habitat of the Rookery Bay Reserve.
Rookery Bay, in conjunction with the Marco Island Parks and Recreation Department, is sponsoring a Junior Naturalist Camp which begins Monday.
Rising third through fifth grade students can learn from Rookery Bay staff members how to observe and find animal life and identify species of fish, reptiles and birds. The creatures in the reserve range from tiny microorganisms to large animals.
"They will do fun things like going on a trip to Tigertail Beach and learn about fish, birds and other wildlife," said Mindy Matusiak, recreation program supervisor for the parks and recreation department. "They are going to be doing some dissecting of some animals as well."
The children will also visit Eagle Lakes Community Park.
Session 1 begins June 25 (through June 29) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
Session 2 begins July 9 and ends July 13, also from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Each session costs $85 for residents and $102 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required by calling 642-0575.
Children should bring a bag lunch, bottles water, rain jacket and closed toed shoes. Free transportation for the children will be provided from Mackle Park to the Rookery and back.
The park is located on Andalusia Terrace east of Heathwood Drive.
