Jim and Vee Young, the new owners of Linens Plus, received an official welcome to the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce (MICC) during a ribbon cutting ceremony at the store Dec. 5.

“We try to make a good showing and make them (new members) feel welcome,” said MICC Welcome Ambassador Libby Marx.

“I feel it’s very important to show tangible support for the business community,” Young said, explaining why they joined the Chamber and noted that the couple’s past managerial, financial and accounting along with inventory control experience, made joining a sound, logical move.

Meanwhile, Vee Young welcomed even more Welcome Ambassadors, including MICC Executive Director Sandi Reidemann, MICC Marketing Director Vicki Williams, past president Judy Gerwitz and husband Joel, Jeb Baier and Pat Frater, who attended the Chamber’s unique ribbon-cutting event as well as Richard Shanahan and Shirlean Hackman.

Standing in the midst of the Welcome Ambassadors, Young asked if anyone noticed anything unusual about the sweet- faced, smiling little girl whose photo was peeking out of many of the unique, artistic picture frames standing on shelves and hanging on the walls of the store.

“They’re my granddaughter Kaylie,” she said smiling proudly and adding the girl is her son James’ daughter.

“Linens Plus is no Kmart,” stated Vee, noting that the 20-year old store originally carried upscale items such as bedding and table linens that over the years, evolved into 20 percent linens and 80 percent gift and home accessories. She said she’s especially interested in expanding the stores inventory into “green” environmentally sensible items such as the Homesource line of bamboo-fiber bed sheets and pillowcases in addition to micro-cotton towels and clean-burning soy candles.

“Our prices are affordable but we also feature somewhat expensive things such as original artworks to accommodate all customers’ tastes,” she added.
