Veteran newsman David M. Levine has been appointed editor of the Marco Island Eagle.

"The Eagle is doubtless among the best weekly newspapers in the country," said Levine, who started Nov. 7. "It is in a dynamic market with an award-winning staff. It is a real privilege to serve as its editor."

Levine has served as editor of newspapers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including The Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown, Pa.; The North Jersey Herald & News in Passaic; The Hudson Dispatch in Union City, N.J.; and The Daily Journal in Elizabeth, N.J.

He also taught journalism at Rutgers University and Fairleigh Dickinson University and served as a guest lecturer at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and Montclair (N.J.) State University, and as a mentor at Columbia.

He was editor in residence at Pennsylvania State University, where he taught writing and reporting to undergraduates.

Eagle Publisher Cheryl Ferrara welcomed Levine's appointment.

"We are privileged and honored to have an editor of David Levine's caliber join our staff at the Marco Island Eagle. I invite the community to stop by and meet him," she said.

Levine holds a master's degree in journalism from Columbia; a master's in management from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J.; and a bachelor's in history and political science from Montclair State.
