Summer school will begin in the next two weeks for some Collier County students and school buses will transport students to and from summer programs.

UCF football players told the Orlando Sentinel that former Lely High standout Ereck Plancher physically struggled during an his final practice, and was cursed out by head coach George O’Leary before he collapsed and died last month. Four UCF players said the practice was more intense than the basic conditioning workout described by UCF officials, according to a story on the newspaper's Web site.

Two school board members push for teacher raises

Collier County teachers came out to support students Tuesday by voicing their opinions against the Collier School District’s plan to change the high school schedule. Two Collier County School Board members then showed their support for the teachers, with one requesting the district set aside $10 million for teacher salary increases.
