</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/jul/16/review-streep-super-trouper-rousing-mamma-mia/</link><description>OK, it’s time to come out of the closet. I’m an ABBA fan. I wasn’t always. But after being dragged to the stage productions of “Mamma Mia!” in London and New York and downloading “Gold: Greatest Hits” onto my Nano (listening to it more than any other album because ABBA comes first alphabetically, and it’s hard to scroll while driving), I’ve accepted that I have a fondness for the songs I dismissed as pop drivel in the 1970s and early ‘80s.

No Abba samples, no edgy French producers, no politics. Madonna makes her least adventurous, yet nonetheless shrewd, move with her new “Hard Candy.” She enrolls producers The Neptunes and Timbaland, the guys behind seemingly every American pop hit in the past several years, plus frequent guest vocals by Justin Timberlake, arguably the most viable modern pop star.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/04/music-review-dollys-moving-times-again/</link><description>Dolly Parton’s longevity as a singer can be measured now by how she markets herself. She began her career by going to radio stations, knocking on doors and asking the DJs to spin her records. When she made it to “The Porter Wagoner Show” in the late 1960s, she found a mass audience through television. Now, she’s utilizing the Internet as a marketing tool for the first time.
