Description: An exciting year-long dance residency project in Immokalee culminates with the premiere performance of “Ecotone/Immokalee: An Exploration of Place, A Celebration of Now.” This performance will be a multimedia dance presentation beginning at 7 pm on Friday, May 9, on the campus of the Immokalee Community School (123 North 4th Street, in Immokalee).
The 50-minute presentation will include participation by dozens of children enrolled in dance classes sponsored by the United Arts Council of Collier County. The dance classes are part of the Miracle II after-school program that provides academic and enrichment activities for more than 850 students in grades K-8 attending Immokalee schools. This free performance is open to the public and will be followed by a community meal.
Directed by D. Patton White, artistic director of Beacon Dance in Decatur, Georgia, “Ecotone/Immokalee: An Exploration of Place, A Celebration of Now” is the result of his long-term collaboration with the Immokalee community. The presentation will move around the school’s campus, taking advantage of both indoor and outdoor spaces. Music and video projections will amplify the experience. Performing students will be joined by White, five professional dancers from Atlanta and Miami, as well as by three United Arts Council dance instructors.
