Wal-Mart has great buys for back-to-school supplies

Posted July 31, 2008

Start your engines Moms! It is almost that time of year again to think about getting the kids ready for school. I checked out the prices at Wal-Mart this week. They have several aisles devoted to just school supplies, making it easy to pick up everything in one trip.

There is a whole row of all kinds of insulated lunch packs and lunch boxes with the kids' favorite characters on them from $6.34 to $8.24. Back packs galore from Spiderman, Dora and Hannah Montana from $7. Hannah Montana book bags are $15. Water bottles $2.50 and insulated bottles $4.88. Locker vanity $7.88, locker kit $9.97.

Nice zippered binders that hold everything from $6 to $9.99. Ring notebooks were $4.74 and $6.47. Composition books $2.44, one subject notebook $.88, 150 sheets of notebook paper only $.50. Portfolios $.68, double pocket dividers $2.50, calculators from $8.48. Battery operated pencil sharpener $8.97, manual just $.88.

Here are some real bargains, 40 pencil erasers $.97, scissors $.55, rulers $.55, plastic pencil box $.57. Crayola markers 10/$.88, 24 count crayons $.20, 10 pens to a package or 10 pencils $.50, 12 color pencils $.88, highlighter 4/$1.50, compass $.97, glue sticks 3/$.60, washable markers 11/$.60, watercolors 16/$1.97, paper clips $.96, memo books $.62, index cards $.46. Book covers were only $.74. I saw boxes of one subject notebooks for just five cents each! How can they do that?

You should be able to outfit the whole family for just a small amount at these prices.

You will have money left over to buy them a couple new outfits to start the school year with! It doesn't get better than that! One-stop shopping! I think everyone knows where the closest Wal-Mart is to them so I won't go into that.

Now for a tip: If you go to the Summit Church on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway on Saturday, Aug. 2, they are giving away free back packs. There are only 400 so go early.

Personally shopped for you! Find more shopping news in the Banner's Shopping section.
